As the digital manufacturing company marks its 21st anniversary, Deputy Group Editor Laura Griffiths talks to Holt about developments in additive manufacturing and Protolabs’ fleet of over 170 AM systems, why the ‘digital thread’ is becoming increasingly important in how businesses operate, and why answers to sustainability challenges are going to come from technology.

#36 How 3D printing is helping to combat COVID-19

cropped-TCT_podcastimage

In this episode of Additive Insight, Dan, Laura and Sam catch up from the comfort of their spare rooms, hot desks and sheds to discuss the latest features inside TCT Magazine and how the 3D printing industry is responding to the COVID-19 crisis.

In addition to covering the latest in healthcare, post-processing and architecture & construction, Sam explores the growing prevalence of subscription models for additive manufacturing hardware, while Dan recounts another tale of caution from one of our TCT Expert Advisory Board members.

Naturally, our recent healthcare feature was dominated by the AM industry’s efforts to provide PPE and vital components for those working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic and we spend the majority of this episode highlighting just some of those initiatives and how this crisis could change the perception of 3D printing in a positive way.

#35 Materialise CEO Fried Vancraen on sustainable additive manufacturing

cropped-TCT_podcastimage

In this episode of Additive Insight, Deputy Group Editor Laura Griffiths talks to Materialise founder and CEO Fried Vancraen about 30 years of additive manufacturing innovation.

The conversation takes us from the early days when Fried realised this technology would signal a paradigm shift, to building out a software backbone for AM and the meaningful applications that followed.

The TCT Hall of Fame inductee also talks about the importance of creating real sustainability within AM, and how the industry’s reaction to the current coronavirus crisis could provide a prototype for tackling our world’s more long-term challenges.
